Black Friday 2026 Shopify Checklist: What to Fix Before November 27
Black Friday falls on November 27 this year and Cyber Monday on November 30. Here's what to check on your Shopify store now, while there's still time to fix it.
Black Friday falls on Friday, November 27, 2026, with Cyber Monday on November 30. For most Shopify stores that's the biggest traffic weekend of the year, and also the worst possible time to discover a slow page, a broken discount or a checkout that confuses mobile shoppers.
The good news: almost everything that goes wrong over that weekend can be caught in advance. This is the checklist we work through with Shopify clients in the weeks before the sale. Start at the top; the first sections affect every visitor.
1. Speed: test the pages that will get the traffic
Your homepage isn't where most Black Friday visitors land. Ads, emails and social posts send people straight to collection and product pages, so test those, on mobile, in PageSpeed Insights.
- Look at the Core Web Vitals section first. Google's "good" thresholds are LCP (how fast the main content appears) under 2.5 seconds, INP (how quickly the page responds to taps) under 200 milliseconds, and CLS (how much the layout jumps around) under 0.1.
- Compress and resize large images, especially sale banners added at the last minute. A 3 MB hero image can undo every other optimisation.
- Review your apps. Every app that adds a script to the storefront costs load time. Remove anything you installed for a test and never used, and check that uninstalled apps haven't left code behind in your theme.
- Be careful with new pop-ups, countdown timers and spin-to-win widgets. Add them only if you've tested how they behave on a phone.
2. Checkout: remove every reason to hesitate
- Turn on accelerated checkouts such as Shop Pay, Apple Pay and Google Pay if you haven't already. Fewer form fields means fewer abandoned carts on mobile.
- Place a real test order on a phone, end to end, with a discount code applied. Then cancel and refund it.
- Make shipping costs and delivery cut-off dates visible before checkout. Surprise costs at the last step are one of the most common reasons shoppers leave.
- Check that trust signals (returns policy, delivery times, secure payment icons, reviews) are visible on product pages, not just in the footer.
3. Discounts and offers: test the combinations
Shopify lets you combine product, order and shipping discounts, which is powerful and easy to get wrong. Before the weekend:
- Write down exactly which offers should stack and which shouldn't, then test each combination in the cart.
- Schedule automatic discounts and theme changes in advance so nobody has to switch things on at midnight.
- Make sure your announcement bar, banners and product badges all say the same thing as the actual discount.
4. Tracking: make sure you'll know what worked
- In GA4, confirm that purchase events fire with the correct revenue. Run a test order and check the realtime report.
- If you run Meta or Google ads, check that your conversion tracking is connected and recording purchases. Ad platforms spend your budget based on this data.
- Add UTM parameters to every email and social link so you can compare channels afterwards.
5. Stock, emails and support
- Check stock on your best sellers and decide in advance what happens when something sells out: hide it, show a back-in-stock form, or point to an alternative.
- Make sure your abandoned checkout and welcome email flows are switched on and up to date with the sale messaging.
- Prepare answers to the questions you'll get most (delivery dates, returns, sizing) and put them in your FAQ and auto-replies.
6. Freeze changes a week before
The single most useful rule: stop making theme and app changes about a week before Black Friday. Duplicate your live theme as a backup, make any final edits on the copy, test them, then publish and leave the store alone. If something breaks on the day, you can switch back to the backup theme in a few clicks.
A simple timeline
| When | What to do |
|---|---|
| Now to mid-November | Speed fixes, app clean-up, checkout and tracking checks |
| Around November 18 to 20 | Set up and test discounts, banners and email flows |
| About a week before | Back up your theme and freeze changes |
| November 27 to 30 | Monitor orders, stock and site speed; answer questions fast |
